The phrase "Open for Business" has been a hot topic in West Virginia of late. While most of the debate has centered on whether "Open for Business" should adorn our state's welcome signs, little attention has been paid as to whether the phrase is actually true. Sadly, it is not. Our state has one of the worst economies in the nation.
As highlighted on this web site, reputable economic indicators, respected business organizations, and news accounts all point to the fact that West Virginia is currently "closed for business". Problems include the lawsuit climate and an unwillingness of elected officials to make needed reforms to our state laws to encourage investment in our state to improve job opportunities and a better life for our families.
